Tell us about More than Mischief
More than Mischief is the first installment in The Hurley Vance Series.  It is a dystopian novel set in a wicked, unjust State.  Below is the blurb, which I feel obligated to use, as I spent a long time trying to craft something brief and sensible.

Torture, brainwashing, and obedience are common. Questions are not.

A few among the subservient population strive for something more. Son of a senator and brutalized for his beliefs, Hurley Vance desires to be his own person. Wicked statesmen want Hurley contained and the ideas he cherishes suppressed. Evangeline Street, an opposition leader who rejects State enslavement, asks that Hurley join her
countermovement.

After visiting his friends one night, Hurley saves a woman from a Watcher’s cruelty. As a result of his actions, he discovers an underground society living in Building 86.

Now, he must choose between a safe life of government protection or one of danger and revolution.

What genre is it?
New adult, dystopia.

Oh? What kind of readers will it appeal to?
Those who like a story that not only entertains, but provokes thoughts and uncomfortable questions about philosophy and the ugliness of human nature. And for readers who like strong, witty, different, and rough characters. Libertarians and other advocates of restrained government power will also identify with the message.

You said this is part of a series?
This is my debut novel. Currently, I am writing the second book in The Hurley Vance Series. After learning more than a few lessons regarding the writing process the first time around, I am confident that this next adventure will be smoother and more enjoyable. Although, throwing a saddle over the back of a well-behaved Tauntaun, and cruising around the desolate land of Hoth would be much more pleasant. Just watch out for Wampas. They’re so angry.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love my book.
If Fight Club and Atlas Shrugged collided in the Thunderdome of literature, and then generated a book baby with a grimace, you might like More than Mischief. Now, the authors who penned those stories are/were infinitely more talented than I am. But I’m trying to sell a book for Pete’s sake.

Fair enough. So the plan is that this book will leave us…
Entertained, deeply curious, and desperately wanting to follow the series as it plays out. I want the reader to find at least one relatable character that they truly wish were an actual individual, and their personal friend. And finally, to understand that sometimes the most benign and seemingly generous people are often the most dangerous.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
Writing has quickly become my genuine passion. I find the act itself to serve as an escape, one that can take me to all sorts of intriguing places, even if those places are disturbing. On a lighter note… I also like Mountain Dew and sour gummy worms. Fire makes me smile, while scorpions make me nervous. One time, I was chased by a dog. He didn’t catch me.

What’s next?
Work on the second book, find a good recipe, prepare for a really long race in the woods, and then run that race with a burning desire to win a prize. I’d also like to squeeze in a proper thanks to Indie Author Land. You have kindly given me the opportunity to reach an audience that I, given my unknown status, would have never been able to interact with. And for that, I am grateful.
