Tell us about Living Backwards.
Twenty-nine-year-old Jillian Cross refuses to believe that a pair of skinny jeans has led to her untimely demise. Life just isn’t that cruel. But when an overly-enthusiastic attempt at squeezing herself into them leads her to fall and lose consciousness, she is faced with just that possibility. When she awakens with both a bruised ego and a bump on her head, she’s not in her tiny apartment but her childhood bedroom circa 1999-the spring of her senior year in high school. Jillian knows that time travel isn’t logical. But then again, neither was her decision to wear skinny jeans. As she attempts to navigate her way through the halls of Reynolds High, walking the same path and making the same choices she made years before, she knows that any change she makes can have a catastrophic effect on her future. But when she strikes up an unexpected friendship with motorcycle-riding, cigarette-smoking Luke Chambers, can she pretend to be the same shy girl she once was? At least she has her pink sparkly flask to take the edge off. One little change won’t hurt, right?

What genre is it?
Chick lit, humor.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
People who like flasks. And Pop Tarts. Kidding. I think the desire to go back to high school and do things differently lives within pretty much everybody except maybe the prom king and queen. This story takes a different spin in that the main character tries not to change the past but finds that it’s not easy making the same choices that your seventeen-year-old self made. Can you be the same person? I don’t think I could.

We’d probably struggle to be the same people we were last week! How long did Living Backwards take to write?
I started writing Living Backwards when my youngest son was three months old. I’m currently planning his fourth birthday. I might be a bit of a perfectionist.

What was your greatest creative challenge?
I’m challenged by lack of time these days. What I would give for a full day to sit and lose myself in my characters. But with two young boys and a demanding work schedule, that’s not usually an option. If I had a time machine…

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Tracy Sweeney. I live north of Boston with my two young boys. I spend a ridiculous amount of time discussing Angry Birds strategy and the most recent episode of Go Diego Go. Occasionally, I’m left to my own devices and I write. And I sometimes think I’m funny.

Have you got a blog where we can follow your work? Are you on Twitter?
My Twitter handle is @pink_flask.

What’s next?
Now that Living Backwards has seen the light of day, I’ve begun outlining my second novel. I’ve published a few shorts in online magazines and on my author blog. I also plan to become best friends with Oprah. Watch out Gayle.

This book makes even those of us who are no longer chicks wish that we could go back in time. Imagine knowing what we know now and walking down down the halls of our high school during our senior year…oh my!

    Was this Twilight fanfiction?
