Tell us about Finding Trust
Brayden and Rihanna

He’s hot, sexy, and leads a double life. Sometimes in the limelight, mostly in the shadows. Brayden James holds fast to a secret that’s more than his to share.

She’s a singularly focused veterinarian out for a rare night of fun with friends, at a New Year’s Eve rock concert. Going home with the lead guitarist was furthest thing from Rihanna Mason’s mind when the night began.

When Rihanna inadvertently becomes the target of a deadly terrorist plot using the Hendra virus as a biological weapon, Brayden is forced to reveal his other life.  His job is to keep her safe and together they must stop the terrorists before it’s too late. But what happens when she becomes more to him than just the assignment?

Will the secret he cannot disclose ultimately prove too much for Rihanna’s fragile trust in relationships? Or will he finally break through the double brick walls around her heart, where every other man has failed?

Hendra virus? What’s that?
In Finding Trust, my characters tackle a very real virus (Hendra virus)  that is being used as a biological weapon.  This is a virus that has killed both horses and humans that have contracted it down the east coast of Australia.  It has been in existence for almost twenty years.   So I’ve taken something real and used it fictitiously.  Probably a little different from your average romance novel.

So this is a romance novel?
This book is a romantic suspense.  Heavy on the romance with a litte urban fantasy twist .  (The hero has altered DNA – doesn’t shift or anything like that – but has some other interesting genetic enhancements)

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
Any readers that like contemporary romance, romantic suspense, action, something a little different from your average romance novel.  There is a more science orientated urban fantasy element as well via the enhanced DNA.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love Finding Trust.
If you like your books a little bit dirty and a litte bit sweet, with a whole lot of action, you’ll love my book.

How would you like the reader to feel as they read the last word of your book?
I’d like the reader to feel like they’ve been on a journey with my characters.  That they’re now invested in their world, and they’re waiting eagerly for the next book in the series.  Not only to revisit with the hero and heroine from Finding Trust but also to catch up with all the characters for the next book.  I have  a few interesting characters and sub plot lines that will evolve in future books.  All though finding Trust is a complete length novel 140,000 words approximately.

Next book in the series?
Currently working on the next in the Centre Games series – Finding Judgement.

How many books are there going to be in the series?
I have at least four books planned for the Centre Games series probably with a couple of novellas as well.  There is much more room for expansion as long as they are being well received.  The characters that appear in Finding Trust will flow into further books.  I also have an outline for a spin-off series around the rock band in Finding Trust.  It would be very different from the Centre Games series and be more along the lines of contemporary romance.

Tell us more about the Centre Games series.
The Centre Games series is set around a quasi government agency that has been established to investigate and eradicate, environmental, biological and agricultural threats. They operate between the boundaries of the military and the government but are officially neither.   The Centre “operatives” are a little more than they appear and come fully equipped with some useful abilities courtesy of some DNA modifications in the test tube at conception.   They are not shifters, rather humans with enhanced abilities courtesy of their DNA being spliced with that of various animals.  Essentially the operative have been “created” to support the mandate of the Centre.  This is where the urban  fantasy twist comes in.

I like to tackle some of the real life issues/threats that are presented to us in society today, in a fictitious manner through romantic suspense.

You say the next book is Finding Judgement – any chance of a teaser as to what we can expect?
Finding Judgement tells the story of Rory and his truck driving pixie, TJ Walsh.  TJ had a very brief  mystery appearance in Finding Judgement (Rory didn’t know who she was in Finding Judgement, but she certainly tweaked his interest and he wondered.) .  TJ finds herself unwittingly carting some very unpleasant cargo and Rory is assigned to investigate the source of the carcinogenic contaminant, by his superiors at the Centre.   Unfortunately for TJ she has more problems than carting contaminated products.  She’s also struggling to keep her family’s trucking business alive particularly when its being actively targeted for retribution.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I recently discovered those school vocational assessments are really interesting and probably correct! Who would have thought, hey? You see, I clearly remember taking one of those in Year 11 (for my US friends, I think that equates to junior year in high school). Anyway, semantics. Well, the results came back indicating that I should pursue a career in writing and something else. What that something else was I can’t remember but the writing thing stuck in my mind.

Sure, I’d always liked English and had already developed a ravenous appetite for romance novels by the age of sixteen—but who becomes a writer straight out of school? So to cut a long story short, I went to Uni and studied Business and ended up managing large-scale IT projects shortly after.

I can’t complain: it’s been a great career. I’ve done some awesome projects and met some incredible people and I won’t be giving it up anytime soon. Anyway, I’ve messed around with a couple of “secret” novels over the years and I finally decided to get serious and finish one. Hence “Finding Trust” came about. And about twenty years later, I’ve finally proved a vocational assessment correct, because I love writing!

As to some other stuff about me: I live on the Gold Coast, Australia. I love spending time with my family and friends. When I’m not sitting behind a screen playing with IT or writing, you might find me down the beach playing in the waves on a Jet Ski or a bogey board (both are uber cool).

When the weather turns a bit cooler (doesn’t really happen on the Gold Coast), we like to head for the snow. I’ve discovered I have two kids who are kamikaze skiers—they must take after their father. He’s always at me to “release the handbrake.” Apparently I’d ski so much better. I call it a healthy understanding of self-preservation and gravity!

I like to think I can fit in a few workouts and martial arts classes each week. This tends to be a figment of my imagination more than reality, unfortunately. I am trying to remedy this, but those damn characters just keep demanding to have their stories told and, well, there’s always another good book to read!

I hope you enjoy mine.

much more fun than reality!
