Tell us about A State of Jane.
Jane Frank is ready to fall in love.  It’s been a year since her long term relationship ended and far too long since the last time she was kissed. With the LSAT coming up she needs to find a long term boyfriend (or husband) before acing law school and becoming a partner at her father’s law firm.  There’s just one problem: All the guys in New York City are flakes. They seemingly drop off the face of the earth with no warning and no explanation.  Should she join her best friend Marissa in singlehood, making cupcakes and watching True Blood? Or should she follow her co-worker Andrew’s advice and turn the game back on those who’ve scorned her? As Jane attempts to juggle her own responsibilities and put up with the problems of everyone around her, she starts to realize that the dating life isn’t as easy as she originally thought.

What genre is it?
Contemporary women’s fiction/Chick Lit.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
A State of Jane will appeal to readers, probably female, who are looking for a fast, funny, light, entertaining read.  It will also appeal to women who enjoy reading about real and flawed characters to whom they can relate.  To quote one of my reviews, “If you’re a fan of chick-lit, imperfect heroines, and just darn good stories, I highly recommend you read A State of Jane“.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love A State of Jane.
Sophie Kinsella.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
I have another published novel called Just Friends with Benefits.  It is a romantic comedy about a woman who tries to turn “the one who got away” into “the one”.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a writer by passion, but in order to pay my ridiculously expensive NYC rent, I have a day job in a law firm as a trademark paralegal.  I am much like the characters I create – real, flawed, somewhat of a late bloomer and still learning more about myself every day! I make mistakes but my goal is to learn from them so I do not make the same mistakes twice.

Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work?

What’s next?
I have completed my third manuscript.  It is a chick lit romance about a very popular book reviewer/blogger who is asked to review the debut novel of her high school nemesis, i.e. “the mean girl.”  A legal secretary by day, she starts dating an attorney from her law firm who insists that she is hiding behind other people’s books because she secretly wants to be a writer herself.

  1. I absolutely loved “A State of Jane,” especially because Jane is such an authentic character. I also adored “Just Friends with Benefits,” and cannot wait for Meredith Schorr’s next book to come out. Great interview!

  2. JANE’s a great story with a main character who’s as endearing as she is frustrating–in a good way. I think the Sophie Kinsella comparison is spot-on. Fun interview, fun book!
