Great title. Tell us what The Transylvania Flying Squad of Detectives is about.
The Transylvania Flying Squad of Detectives is the story of Tom Flynn arriving in Purgatory after he’s killed in WW2. He’s recruited to join the Transylvania City Police Department, the police force responsible for the city in Purgatory where witches, vampires, goblins and other “creatures” are confined. Transylvania City is much like London of about 1920.

Trouble starts Tom’s first day there when a fellow recruit to the T.C.P.D. has his backpack stolen by a street goblin. Tom’s first assignment is to track down the  goblin who stole it. A murder soon follows and then Tom will figure out what was in the backpack that is so important, and worse, who has is now – one of the worst villains of all time, who has been sent to Transylvania City after spending his last lifetime in the Dark Realms of Purgatory paying for his sins. And then finally he’ll uncover the diabolical plan that has been set in
motion.

What genre is it?
I think of it as a police procedural in a fantasy setting. And then it becomes a thriller when the villain is revealed and must be stopped by some clever ruse our hero must pull off all before the cathedral bells strike 6 o’clock.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
Any one with a brain. Who doesn’t love seeing how an exciting case is solved in a highly-imagined city and then the villain must be stopped by some clever ruse. If it was a movie it would probably be PG rated and thus suitable to all ages and there is plenty of humor and just a little bit of romance. The cast includes a handsome, young detective, his wise and wise-cracking older partner, a pretty, charming and smart librarian who helps decipher some clues and finally makes herself villains next target. And on the villain side we have Stone, a rock troll who dresses like one of Capone’s thugs and has a warped since of fairplay. A witch, and finally one of the worst villains of all time, the identity of whom is revealed halfway in, but just what diabolical plan he has in store, using the item he has secured is not revealed until the last fifty pages and then our hero must figure out a way of stopping that evil plan from being carried out all before the church bells strike the top of the hour.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love my book.
If you like a clever adventure in the vein of Indiana Jones with a bit of Sherlock Holmes like detective work in a circa 1920, gothic city where witches and vampires mingle among humans, you’ll love this book.

This is the start of a series, right? Can you tell us about the sequel?
The first book was your typical detective investigation, but with a fantasy twist. This second book is more like a spy novel where there is intrigue and confusion and nobody seems to be who they say they are, but then it all makes sense and like the first book – the villain must be stopped by some clever means and not just brute force. I’m thinking about calling it Our Man in the U.K.K.R. but that is subject to change. If anyone was any good ideas for me, I would love to hear them.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
I’ve written a Western, –The Trail – that is totally different from this book. It has gotten very good reviews. It’s #20 on Goodreads list of the top westerns of all time.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
Just a regular guy with a wife and four kids who worked on his first book for 12 years before I published it and then, when one of my teenagers said there were no good books to read about detectives that had both thrills and humor I started working on this book a couple of years ago.

What’s next?
The sequel to The Transylvania Flying Squad. It’s been story boarded and I’m about half way finished writing the scenes.

I read this. It is simply awesome. It would make the biggest Blockbuster movie since The Avengers. The dialogue, especially Red Meriwehter’s is laugh out loud funny . And the villain is both scary and mesmerizing. His monologue at the end is the best villain speech I ever read.
