Tell us about A Rat’s War.
It’s called ‘A Rat’s war,’ and it’s a young adult/historical novel set in Germany in 1945. Two teenagers find themselves conscripted into the German home guard to fight the Russians, and this book is the story of their fight to survive. One of the teenagers conceals a deadly secret…

It’s more a novella than a novel, but hopefully I’ve crammed enough good stuff into it to make up for a lack of quantity.

What genre is it?
It’s a historical/young adult book, but there is some romance in it as well, so technically it could be classified as romantic, but it’s more guns and tanks than flowers and chocolates.

Oh? In that case, what demographic will it appeal to?
Hopefully, it will appeal to fans of the genre and to anybody who likes a good story. The length of the book is about 20,000 words, so if people are pressed for time, but are still looking for something to read, this may fill that niche.

Is there anything out there that appeals to a similar demographic?
If you like Hunger Games, you’ll love my book.

How would you like the reader to feel as they read the last word of this book?
Entertained and educated. Some of the battles/events are drawn from historical accounts, so people will get an idea of how bloody that chapter of history was.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
I’ve been interviewed before on this site, so there is a record of my previous work ‘Death to Love,’ on these pages. This new book is a war story and Death to Love is a crime story, so it may not appeal to everybody. Rest assured, there is more work in the pipeline.

Tell us something new about you.
I’ve been writing for a while now, have a couple of university degrees, and have seen every episode of Star Trek DS9.

Remind us your Twitter account.
I can be found at @RMFBrown.

What’s next?
I have no idea. In the past I’ve mentioned I’ll be working on a horror novel, but I’ve got so many ideas on my next book, I can’t even be sure myself what it will be.
