Tell us about your new book

Leap the Wild Water is set in early 19th century Wales. It is a tale of treachery and betrayal and portrays how people are capable of terrible cruelty if they can lay blame at someone else’s door.

Six years before the story begins, Megan has her illegitimate baby stolen away from her by her Mam and brother, Morgan,to save the family from shame. It is placed with a woman who takes in illegitimate children for money.

The story has two narrators, Megan and Morgan, and begins with the return of Megan’s childhood sweetheart Eli who wants to marry her. Megan’s Mam has recently died and can no longer stand in her way, so Megan accepts Eli’s proposal but does not tell him of the affair she had during his absence, nor about the baby taken away from her.  Meanwhile, her brother Morgan is desperate to make amends. He knows Megan’s child is living in squalor and is abused and neglected. He wants to bring the child home but if he does he will ruin his sister’s new found happiness and reputation. While Morgan wrestles with his conscience, Megan’s past begins to catch up with her and threatens to destroy her life.

What genre is it?

Literary/ historical.

Oh? What kind of readers will it appeal to?

I have written the kind of story I love to read – stories which transport the reader to the time and place so reminiscent of the novels written in the 18th and 19th centuries with rural settings. So I would say my novel would appeal to readers who love the old classics.

What old classics?

If you like the novels of Thomas Hardy and George Elliot, you’ll love my book.

How would you like the reader to feel as they read the last word of your book?

That it is possible to overcome the most terrible of wrongs that can be done to you, and above all, be true to yourself and seek an honest path in life.

Tell us something about yourself.

I was born in Wales and have lived there for most of my life. I love the Welsh landscape which is portrayed in my novel and many of my ideas come to me when wandering about the Welsh hills where I live. I always carry a notebook with me. My other inspirations come from my own family history, social history, social psychology and a deep curiosity about what makes people tick.

How can we keep up with you online?

I have a blog site which is jennylloydwriter.wordpress.com. I write here about things I discover while doing research and my experiences as an Indie author.

What about social media?

I’m on Twitter @jennyoldhouse
Facebook page is www.facebook.com/jennylloydauthor.

What’s next?

I’m hoping to have the sequel to Leap the Wild Water ready for publication by the end of this year.
