Last time we interviewed you it was about Off Sides. Tell us about Off Limits. What’s its connection to Off Sides?
I had not originally anticipated doing a follow up to Off Sides, but I had such amazing reaction and feedback to the story and the characters, that I decided to go ahead and do a follow up. For some reason, the fans really connected to Danny and Ryan in this story and they wanted to know more about them, even though they got their Happily Ever After at the end.

Do we need to read Off Sides first or can we dive straight into Off Limits?
You don’t have to read Off Sides first, although I do recommend it because again, Danny and Ryan are such memorable characters and you get to learn more about them in this book. But Off Limits is a stand-alone book centered on Ryan’s sister, Emily and her love interest, Nix Caldwell. He’s a former Marine back from two tours in Afghanistan and is dealing with some pretty horrific demons following his time over there.

Tell us more
Off Limits is about Nix Caldwell. He completed two tours in Afghanistan where he suffered a brain injury and also suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  He carries around a lot of guilt over something that occurred there, and as a result, he tends to keep people at a distance. He meets Emily Burnham and she is able to start breaking down some of his walls. The book is about their journey together, and ultimately how Nix tries to overcome his issues.

What would fans of Off Sides love the most about this book?
I actually think fans will appreciate that this book has a little more complexity to the plot. There’s some pretty emotional stuff dealing with the psychiatric issues. But don’t forget, first and foremost this is a romance, so there’s a lot of that in there too!

What genre is this book?
Contemporary Romance, New Adult.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
I hate to put boundaries on this, but I think this will appeal to any woman who loves a great romance. However, I will say that my gruff, retired Marine Corps father read it and he liked it. But…maybe dads are supposed to say that.

Will there be a third book in this series?
Yes. I’m finishing up the third and final book of the series, Off Record.  It gets back to hockey, following Nix’s brother, Linc Caldwell, who is the starting goalie for the New York Rangers. A sassy journalist, Ever Montgomery, writes a less than flattering article about him and the sparks start flying!

Do you remember when you first realised that you were going to be a writer? How old were you?
I get this a lot and let’s just say I’m a late bloomer. I always wanted to write, particularly romance. I have a ton of stories in my head but I’ve always been afraid to try to put them down on paper. This past Fall, I finally got the nerve to try it and what do you know…the words just poured right out of me.

How do you write – according to a strict schedule or do you wait on inspiration?
I write every day. I’m a practicing attorney, so I will write in the afternoons or evenings, and I write about 10-12 hours a day on the weekends. I love it so much, it doesn’t seem like work though.

How can we follow you on Twitter and Facebook?
I’m a Twitter and Facebook addict. And I love to chat!
My twitter handle is @bennettbooks

What are you reading now, or what’s been the favourite book you’ve read recently?
I’ve been reading a lot of New Adult books lately, just trying to get a feel for the genre since I sort of accidentally, stumbled into it when I wrote Off Sides. But my favorite books I’ve read this year were by A. Meredith Walters… Find You In The Dark and Light In The Shadows (2-part series). It’s about a high school student that has bipolar disorder and the journey he is on with his girlfriend to see if love can overcome his psychiatric issues. It is an emotional roller coaster. Miss Walters did a phenomenal job painting a very tortured character who you just wanted to take home and care for him.

What’s next for you?
After I finish Off Record, I will work on my second book in The Forever Land Chronicles which is a Young Adult series. It’s sort of a cross between Peter Pan and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
