Interview with Melodie Ramone, author of After Forever Ends

After Forever Ends is the story of a simple, yet extraordinary Scottish girl and her anything but average Welsh boy. Might sound like a YA novel, but it isn’t. Not entirely. Well, it is, part of it, but the rest isn’t. It grows as the narrative character grows, so it moves from childhood to new adult, to adulthood and on to maturity.

It’s the life story of Silvia Cotton, told from the time she is fifteen until the time she is eight-six years old. Set in Wales, beginning in a boarding school where she meets the love of her life, Oliver, and moving from there to a little house in an ancient Welsh wood where they live out their days, Silvia tells about her life in detail. The highs, the lows, the laughter and tears. Running through it all, the love she shares with her family shines through.

The story’s filled with life’s unexpected; friendships, babies, loves lost and loves gained, but also the things that can’t be explained by logic…magical, mysterious things, like the disembodied voices in the garden they call “the elves” and Fate. As she tells her tale, Silvia unravels the secrets hidden in an ancient Welsh wood, the answers to the oldest and greatest magic in the world, and tells how happiness was never further than her own back garden.

Let’s settle this once and for all, what genre is it?
After Forever Ends is a genre bender. It’s Contemporary Fiction, but also blends with Romance, Chick Lit and Fictional Memoir. There’s a touch of Paranormal there, too.

What kind of readers will such a melange appeal to?
Readers, both men and women, and as young as thirteen to as old as eighty have raved about After Forever Ends. It seems to appeal to anybody who is brave enough to believe in true love and open minded enough to accept the metaphors of magic.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love this book.
If you like Memoirs of A Geisha, you’ll love my book.

How would you like the reader to feel as they read the last word of After Forever Ends?
I’d like them to feel hopeful and like they’ve been given a gift from an old lady who told them a secret they might not have known if they hadn’t read her words.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
I have, but they are not in publication. Novel #2 is in the works, title pending, so if you like After Forever Ends, keep an eye out.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
Well, I’m short and shy and have red hair. I’m married and have children, own too many cats to mention, and I like to cook. I’ve been through a lot in my life and I still believe in love and magic. Not wands and staves, necessarily (they may work for some people, who am I to say?) but the kind of magic that happens when energy manifests itself into something beautiful that we never expected. I believe in the impossible, I believe in kindness. But most of all, I believe in hope. Hope is frail, but it’s nearly impossible to kill, and it carries us through the darkest times into the brightest of days. I always cling to hope.

Beautifully put. Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work?
www.melodieramone.com.

How can we follow you on Twitter and/or Facebook?
@Melodie_Ramone is my Twitter. Don’t do Facebook, sorry.

What’s next?
I’m working on a new novel that I’m hoping to have out in e-book by Christmas. Aside from that, look for After Forever Ends to show itself in paperback in the near future. I’m very excited about that!
