Interview with Melodie Ramone, author of After Forever Ends
After Forever Ends is the story of a simple, yet extraordinary Scottish girl and her anything but average Welsh boy. Might sound like a YA novel, but it isn’t. Not entirely. Well, it is, part of it, but the rest isn’t. It grows as the narrative character grows, so it moves from childhood to new adult, to adulthood and on to maturity. It’s the life story of Silvia Cotton, told from the time she is fifteen until the time she is eight-six years old. Set in Wales, beginning in a boarding school where she meets the love of her life, Oliver, and moving from there to a little house in an ancient Welsh wood where they live out their days, Silvia tells about her life in detail. The highs, the lows, the laughter and tears. Running through it all, the love she shares with her family shines through. The story’s filled with life’s unexpected; friendships, babies, loves lost and loves gained, but also the things that can’t be explained by logic…magical, mysterious things, like the disembodied voices in the garden they call “the elves” and Fate. As she tells her tale, Silvia unravels the secrets hidden in an ancient Welsh wood, the answers to the oldest and greatest magic in the world, and tells how happiness was never further than her own back garden.
