Interview with Charity Parkerson, author of A Splash of Hope

A Splash of Hope by Charity Parkerson

Tell us about A Splash of Hope.
The Hope family has a bit of a reputation for being wild, and when 20 year old Harmony is killed along with her parents the two younger siblings are left on their own. Faith is 18 at the time and easily receives guardianship of her younger sister, 16 year old Serenity. Faith does her best to take care of Serenity but as soon as Serenity moves out on her own Faith leaves her hometown and its bad memories behind.

Here is the blurb:

Two years earlier, Faith Hope left her hometown vowing never to return, but when her sister leaves the town’s hottest bachelor standing at the altar and disappears, Faith is forced to face her past in order to find her.
With a little bit of luck, some devious planning, and a splash of hope, Faith may get her happily-ever-after whether she wants it or not.

What genre is it?
Romantic mystery.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
I think anyone who is a fan of romance will enjoy this book. The fans of my erotica won’t be disappointed either since the sex scenes don’t lose any spice underneath the weight of the love story.

Complete this sentence for us: If you like ________, you’ll love A Splash of Hope.
A bad boy.

You are a very prolific writer. How do you manage it?
I’m a full-time writer so I keep hours. There are 4 set hours during each day that my phone, Internet, and T.V. go off in order for me to concentrate solely on my current projects.

Can you tell us a bit about your other novels and series?
Safe Haven Series– Safe Haven is a black ops agency that is in charge of keeping America safe from Homeland Terrorism. This series focuses on a few of its agents and how their lives are affected by the job they do. They are listed as Military Romance.

Undefeated Series– This series is about a MMA fight club and some of the men who train there. They each have a unique background that has shaped the way they feel about the career they have chosen. They are listed as Sports Romance.

The Sinner Series– The Sinners are a warrior clan blessed by God to have great strength, agility, and eternal life. However, these abilities came at a price; the price of human blood. Since the drinking of human blood is considered sacrilegious they were dubbed sinners and chose to live within their own community: The Society of Sinners. This series is Paranormal Romance.

A Secure Heart– Smith Security Services is a private for-hire company ran by Shannon Smith along with his two best friends, brothers Bob and Weave Sparks. This book is about how one person’s actions can affect the lives of everyone around them. In this case, how the struggle with addiction can make or break not only the person battling the addiction but everyone who loves them, as well. It is Romantic Suspense.

Blue Cheesecake– This is a short, fun, and highly erotic Sci-fi story about a woman who decides to check out a new restaurant in town that is shaped like a UFO.  This started out a funny piece that I had written for a short story contest and it grew into a naughty story. It is listed as Sci-Fi Erotica.

Being his Favorite– I won the Mistress of the Darkpath writing contest with a story about Jane Hughes and her run in with a police detective while she is enjoying a California vacation. Afterwards, I received a ton of emails from people wanting to know what happened to Jane after her fateful parking lot incident so this is her story. It is erotica.

Sarah’s Dirty Secret– Sarah has been married for years and she is bored to tears. She also has a huge crush on her boss, Charlie. She spends quite a bit of time fantasizing about him and the feeling is mutual. Charlie wants Sarah every bit as much as she wants him but he does not want to harm her marriage in any way. You have to read it to find out what happens when this mutual desire collides. This is an Erotica.

Of Ghosts and Dreams– Raven is convinced that she is going insane. She dreams every night about the same man and every day she wakes up torn between her desire to stay asleep and be with him, or to never sleep again. The big question is…is he real? This is Paranormal Erotica.

Which is your favourite series to write?
Probably my Sinner series since I was able to create this whole new world and new creatures. I got to set the rules and bend reality.

You have said that you blush whenever you write sex scenes. Is that your way of knowing that it’s working?
If I’m blushing then I know it’s hot. After twenty titles and a ton of sex scenes I worry about them becoming stale or that they will all begin to sound alike. If I’m blushing then I know I am onto something I have not written about before.

What is the secret to writing great erotica?
I think it is realistic descriptions. If you can describe, in detail, the sights, sounds, and feelings behind a hot sexual encounter then people will connect with that and enjoy it.

Writing a book is never easy, but other than that, what has been the toughest part – editing or marketing?
I’m lucky to have an awesome editor in Hercules Editing so I don’t feel much headache there, but marketing is a time consuming monster. It is constantly changing and you have to go with the flow if you want to keep up. What works today may not work tomorrow and that can be very frustrating.

Which indie authors do you enjoy reading? Who should we interview next?
I have met so many talented indie authors that I know someone will end up offended if I don’t mention them. Dionne Lister is an amazing fantasy writer. I love Vonda Norwood for her quirkiness. Ben Ditmars is an undiscovered gem. Mark Rice blew me away with his talent.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a huge klutz and I hate to wear shoes. I’m really hoping that I can continue to write for a living for the rest of my life, not only because I love it, but also for those two reasons. I’ve been married to an amazing man, who supports everything that I do, for over 10 years now. I have two sons who don’t seem to be too embarrassed by me…yet.

Have you got a site where readers can keep up with your work?
I try to keep my website updated so that all my latest news is there. www.charityparkerson.com

Where can we buy your books?
My books are available online where most books are sold. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Kobo, and several other sites have me up there in print and ebook.

What’s next?
I have several projects coming up but most likely my next release will be a compilation of my erotic short stories with one or two new ones thrown into the mix.
