Interview with Andrew Vu, author of Halfkinds

My book is really an action novel with a science fiction setting.  It takes place in a dystopian world where a few species of animals are as smart as humans.  Society has gotten to a point where these animals have built their own societies and deal with not only humans, but each other.

Then, out of the blue, the first half man, half animal creatures are born (the titular halfkinds).  The all seeing government have declared these creatures abominations, and send a task force out to eliminate them.  Thus the cat and mouse chase begins…

What genre is it?
My novel is science fiction.

What kind of readers will it appeal?
I think it has a broad appeal.  I’ve put enough sci fi elements to entice traditional readers, but it also has enough action to reach out to a bigger audience.  What makes it unique is the story is told from different POV’s of different characters (kind of like George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, but in first person POV).  I think this adds some freshness to a genre that is constantly looking for a way to up themselves.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love Halfkinds.
Battle Royale.

Tell us a bit more about your main character(s)
There’s no main character really.  Since the POV shifts from chapter to chapter, you get to know different characters at an even pace.  I do have a favorite character though, which is Fenrir Snow.  He’s a wolf from the task force.  He’s brooding and a badass, like Wolverine and Jack Bauer mixed into one.

This is a series, right?
Right now Volume 1 AND Volume 2 are out, and Volume 3 is around the corner.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I myself am a programmer by day, writer by night.  I love sci fi in all forms of media, video games, movies, and obviously books.  I’m also a big comic book nerd and gamer.  That last game I played was Bioshock Infinite.

Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work?
I have a blog, but I don’t update it that often.  Readers can find more about the Halfkind series on a very detailed wiki that I constantly update.  http://halfkinds.wikia.com.

How can we follow you on Twitter and/or Facebook?
Yes, my fb page is https://www.facebook.com/AndrewNVu.

What’s next?
Volume 3, coming hopefully in the fall of 2013.
