Dispatchers: Vengeance of the Dark” is the first in a series of supernatural thrillers set in modern-day London based on Astral Projection.

This first novel introduces Marcus Townsend, who is a seemingly normal 17 year old student with a vivid imagination but a lack of direction in his life. However, all that changes in one night when three murders are committed by a supernatural killer. As Marcus comes to terms with the loss of his mother and the comatose condition of his father, he realises that he is being followed by a mysterious young man who no-one else can see.  Marcus uncovers the truth and discovers a secret society of supernatural entities, known as Dispatchers, and an incredible underground facility in Central London. However, he also discovers that he is in mortal danger and time is fast running out.

What genre is it?
It is mainly a supernatural thriller with plenty of action and murder.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
Well, I really wrote the book I wanted to read so geeks will love this. I would say this is for anyone who has an interest in Astral Projection and the supernatural, especially people who love their secret societies. I would say this is one for the X Files generation. I will also say that this really isn’t for anyone under the age of 15.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love this book.
if you like supernatural thrillers which are easy to read and fast paced, you’ll love my book.

Tell us a bit more about Marcus.
Marcus Townsend is a 17 year old student with a lack of drive but mountains of creativity. He is much like any other 17 year old boy, he is generally very messy, disorganised and moody. He prefers subjects which allow him to express his creativity, such as art.

When we first meet Marcus we discover that he has recently been having vivid dreams of flight. When he wakes, he is subjected to intense headaches (which he has refused to tell anyone about for fear of sounding weak) and a clear recollection of his dream. He puts it down to his overactive imagination and is unaware that he has a very special ability which is about to surface.

He has a strained relationship with his father which intensifies after he initially blames his father for the death of his mother. He is also incredibly stubborn.

This is the first in a series, you say?
I’ve left Dispatchers in a position where there is clearly more to come and that the events in the book are really just the tip of a far greater story. I would like readers to feel the hope for the future shared by the main character and that there is far more to come. I would love readers to be eager to continue the story and inspired by the world I have created.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
Dispatchers is my debut novel but I am well on the way with the second and third in the series. I am also working on other titles, mainly with a supernatural or science fiction theme. I have written a short comedy horror story called “Faulker Surprise“, available on Kindle.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I live in Derbyshire, England with my wonderful wife and I spend my days crashing cars in a computer to design parts to make them safer. In other words, I am a crashworthiness engineer. In my spare time, I consider myself an imaginaut. I love writing and networking with other indie authors. I’d say my primary inspiration is from the old 1950’s and 60’s horror and science fiction films. I am a supergeek with an encyclopaedic knowledge of sci-fi. I began writing as a bit of fun really before starting Dispatchers in 2008.

Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work?
I am working on my author site which I am hoping to have completed in the near future.

What’s next?
The next instalment in the Dispatcher series will be called “Dispatchers: Infinity and Oblivion”, available early 2014. The novel is set 3 years after the events of VOTD and there will be a serious amount of Dispatcher action going on. On the sidelines, I am working on another supernatural action novel called “Serpent of the Tyche” which I am aiming to release around the same time as “Infinity and Oblivion”
