Interview with Lana Voynich, author of Alaskan Healing

image

Tell us about Alaskan Healing.
Drake Richards is a commercial fisherman who doesn’t trust women. Shawn Nilsen is a strong-willed woman who has just been jilted by her fiancé. Shawn flees to Alaska and is hired by Drake’s father to work on a crab fishing boat. There’s plenty of tension as Drake and Shawn come to terms with their preconceived notions of one another.

What genre is it?
Romantic women’s fiction.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
Alaskan Healing appeals to readers who like strong, yet imperfect, characters who grow and change in an adventurous setting. Alaskan Healing is a quick, easy read that can be finished in a weekend.

How long did it take to write?
I spent a couple years writing and revising Alaskan Healing. It was first published in 2009 (as an ebook) and as a paperback in 2010. I’ve recently parted (amicably) with my publisher and just re-released Alaskan Healing as an Indie book at the beginning of October, 2012.

What was the most challenging part of your creative process?
Writing the middle of a book is always the most challenging part for me. At the beginning, I’m excited and able to write without sleeping much. By the middle of the book, I’m getting bored with my characters and feel like I’m never going to reach the end. The ending is easy because by that point, the characters have decided what will happen and all I have to do is follow their orders.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a computer programmer and freelance writer who works at home, overlooking a lake in northern Wisconsin. I share my life with my husband, our two children, two Dogues de Bordeaux (the dog breed from the movie Turner and Hooch), and three cats.

I’ve been telling stories my entire life, but my parents referred to it as “lying” for many years. Once I started telling stories about things other than my innocence and my brother’s guilt, they encouraged me.

Have you got a blog where readers can keep up with your work?
Yes. My blog can be found at http://www.lanavoynich.com/blog-2

Where can we buy Alaskan Healing?
Alaskan Healing can be purchased at Amazon, BN.com, the iBookstore, Smashwords, and CreateSpace.

If readers would like an autographed copy, one can be ordered from my website.  I also participate at kindlegraph.com, if anyone would like a digital autograph.

What’s next?
I’m currently in the middle of editing Faceoff of the Heart, a novel about a woman who is torn between her ex-boyfriend from college and her current boyfriend, both of whom play professional hockey. The expected release date of Faceoff of the Heart is December, 2012. The rough draft of the second novel in the Alaskan Healing series, Alaskan Hope, is nearly complete, as well.
