Tell us about Alibi’s Ghosts.
The full title is “Alibi’s Ghosts, The Larger-Than-Life Small World of a Medium’s Daughter.” Alexandra ‘Alibi’ Vernon is the eleven-year-old daughter of a psychic medium whose behavior is repeatedly influenced by kids from the Other Side. From building sub sandwiches in her sleep to sneaking into a stranger’s attic, Alibi has her innocence challenged on a regular basis. Since her mother is fairly new at medium work, she only schedules two readings a week. However, this particular week, she accidentally schedules five readings, five days in a row. During this time, each child from the Other Side has a mysterious clue for Alibi to unravel, and she begins to notice each clue is connected in some way with the other readings. With a bit of ghostly charade playing, lots of trouble dodging, and the help of her deceased relatives: Grandpa Edgar and Cousin Kyle, along with her living but scaredy-cat best friend, Daisy, Alibi is able to solve the mystery and help all five grieving parents simultaneously.

What genre is it?
Middle grade paranormal mystery.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
I’ve been told that it appeals to young readers and those who are young at heart. It’s also for those who are looking for a little bit of humor mixed with a good bit of the paranormal, but yet don’t want to be frightened by gross and gory stuff. And of course, it’s for the readers who enjoy solving mysteries.

How long did it take to write?
About nine months.

What was the most challenging part of your creative process?
Trying to focus on writing this book in chronological order. Whenever I write a mystery, there is a lot of plotting and planning involved in order for it to make sense at the end. But for some reason, I kept writing chapters out of sync. I would get images in my mind of what I wanted or felt needed to happen next, but then I would draw a total blank when I tried to write the chapter. Eventually, I just gave in and began writing the scenes that came to me when they came to me, instead of forcing them in order. And surprisingly enough, once I finished as many scenes as I could, and then did a bit of chapter shuffling, it all came together nicely.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’ve been writing since the fifth grade. I used to write short stories, and also plays for the class to perform. Later, while in my twenties, I began taking writing classes, and submitting my short stories to magazines. For years, I mainly wrote short stories, essays and articles that were eventually published in a variety of magazines and newspapers. Afterwards, I attempted novels and screenplays. I signed with several literary and screenplay agents over the years on different projects but unfortunately nothing was ever sold. My most recent (and favorite) writing projects have been my two middle grade paranormal mysteries: Alibi’s Ghosts and Cydni Hazard, Empathic Detective.

Have you got a blog where readers can keep up with your work?
