Divided is the first in a new series that takes place in modern day St. Louis, Missouri. During a routine case, private investigator Elena Ronen meets and falls in love with Vittorio Santini, member of a secret coven, and a kiss awakens her dormant magical powers. Because Elena wields an extremely powerful form of magic, she struggles to convince her enemies she has no desire to take over the coven. When loyalties are questioned, and Elena can no longer tell friend from foe, she must prove she wants nothing more than to live her life quietly. When this wish falls on deaf ears, Elena and Vittorio must work together to defeat their enemies as they try to save their love, their lives, and the lives of those they care about.

What genre is it?
Urban fantasy crossed with a bit of paranormal romance.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
Divided will appeal to readers who like a bit of mystery and romance mixed together, along with magic and intrigue. Readers who enjoy strong female leads, but not too strong to show weakness will love Elena, the main character. Anyone who likes a good story with unexpected twists will like this book.

Tell us a bit more about Elena.
Elena Ronen is a private investigator who’s past is less than enviable. I won’t give away too much, as details will be revealed in the story, but she was lucky to find a guardian angel – figuratively speaking – to help guide her to the straight life. Even so, she still walls herself off from the world, protecting her heart from further pain. That’s all torn to shreds when she meets Vittorio Santini, and is thrown into a world she never knew existed.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love Divided.
Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
I’m editing the sequel, Ravaged, right now, and plan to release it in September of this year.

As soon as that’s available I’ll get straight to work on editing a novel outside of this series – a psychological thriller – which will be released next March. Then if all goes according to plan, the third book in the Elena Ronen series will be released in September 2014. Yes, I’m a busy girl!

Sounds like you definitely are.
I used to be fueled by pots and pots of coffee, but for health reasons I’ve recently cut caffeine almost entirely out of my diet. I know, what kind of writer doesn’t consume copious amounts of caffeine? So maybe it will just be sheer willpower from here on out. I do work at a standing desk, and use a balance ball instead of a chair when I need a sitting break. I also take short breaks to do jumping jacks (during which my dogs look at me like I’m complete nuts) and stretches, and to have solo dance parties in my office. Never had a solo dance party? You should try it! It’s a great movement break and loads of fun! There’s a link to my playlist on the About Me page of my website.

Where is your website? (See how we’re pretending not to have heard your dance party suggestion?)

Tell us a bit more about yourself.
I live in St. Louis, where the book takes place, and have all my life, though I love traveling. My favorite cities (that I’ve visited so far, anyway!) are New York City, San Francisco, and Seattle. I’m married and have 3 dogs – Tiberius, a black lab mix, Emmy, a 40 pound mutt, and Cookie, a pit bull terrier. I also volunteer at the local humane society with my husband, John, and love riding my motorcycle.

I’ve been writing pretty much my whole life, but got serious about it maybe 7 years ago. I’ve been honing my storytelling skills and have several novels in the digital drawer, though perhaps I’ll dust one or two of those off sometime down the road.
