My latest release is a three box set of my Sydney Rye mysteries. It includes UNLEASHED (A Sydney Rye Novel, #1), DEATH IN THE DARK (A Sydney Rye Novella, #2) and INSATIABLE (A Sydney Rye Novel, #3). I’m hard at work on the fourth novel in the series, STRINGS OF GLASS, which comes out later this summer.

This series feature a strong female protagonist and her canine best friend. It is recommended for the 18+ who enjoy some violence, don’t mind dirty language, and are up for a dash of sex. Not to mention an awesome, rollicking good mystery!

Tell us about Sydney.
Sydney Rye suffers a major trauma in the first book, UNLEASHED, which leads her to becoming a wanted fugitive, changing her name to Sydney Rye, and becoming an international P.I. She is super tough and trained to fight, her instincts are sharp and her thirst for justice gets her into a lot of tight spots. Blue, her dog and best friend, is by her side at all times and she gets a lot of strength from him. Sydney Rye wants to be a lone wolf but deep down she cares deeply for people and is a natural born leader.

What genre are these books?
My Sydney Rye mysteries are hard boiled and dark. Not for the faint of heart.

Oh?
Readers have compared my series to Sue Grafton‘s Kinsey Milhone as well as work by Denise Mina, and the Sookie Stackhouse books. I know that sounds like three really different styles but since I’m a huge fan of all those books (my dog is named Kinsey Milhone, pup detective) it makes sense that they’ve influenced Sydney Rye’s adventures.

So if we like those books – and we do – we’ll love the Sydney Rye Series. Anything else?
If you like dogs, kick ass female protagonist, and fast-paced, action packed stories, you’ll love my book.

What can you tell us about the future of the series?
The next book in the series, STRINGS OF GLASS, is in the final editing stages right now and should be out by August 1st… but don’t hold me to that. I’ve spent a lot of time over the last year training myself to write faster but it’s super important to me that each of my books be really well crafted. I want to be known for books that you can read in a day on the beach but you can’t stop thinking about for weeks.

Each novel seems to be set in a new location. How do you manage it?
I’m obsessed with Sydney Rye and the world she inhabits. Place is very important to me. UNLEASHED takes place on the Upper East Side of New York City where I worked as a dog walker while in college (Sydney’s job in the first book is as a dog walker). A lot of DEATH IN THE DARK takes place on an oyster farm in Mexico that is a real place, a real magical place that I love. Sydney often ends up living in RVs, which is my favorite mode of transportation. Lots of INSATIABLE takes place in St. Thomas where my father grew up and I was married on the island. STRINGS OF GLASS is located in India where I spent all of last winter doing research and writing.

I’m lucky enough to have a husband who gets what I do and loves to travel so has no problem with months in strange places, my head bent over a computer.

What’s next?
After I’m finished editing STRINGS OF GLASS I’ll get straight to work on Sydney Rye #5 which takes place in Miami and brings back a character who I loved from the first book.
