Journey to Altmortis follows Thaddeus Falchester as he hunts treasure and revenge in the abandoned ruins of Altmortis. Travelling with his sister Lynette, and other assorted ne’er-do-wells, he must cross the wilderness of the Kuhrland to reach the dead city, where he will find his enemies. But there’s more than robbers awaiting him in the shadows of Altmortis…

What genre is it?
It’s a fantasy story set in a fictional world, and is stand-alone.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
Readers who enjoy fast-paced stories, conniving characters and a tense, dark plot peppered with inventive twists.

Tell us more about Thaddeus.
Thaddeus Falchester is actually the firstborn son of the Earl of Falchester. However, when his sister Lynette had to flee the family home he chose to leave with her and the pair live in Highford. His loyal servant, and closest friend, is the Felarian knifeman Pretty Pierre, so called (ironically) because half his face has been twisted with burn scars. Thaddeus makes his money through nefarious means, typically smuggling and theft, but prefers to refrain from bloodier crimes.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love this book.
If you like The Riyria Revelations, you’ll love my book.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
Yes, namely Bane of Souls. It’s a stand-alone story set in the same world as Journey to Altmortis. Several characters overlap but (excepting Thaddeus Falchester) they’re minor in one book or the other.

In Bane of Souls: Horst is visiting Highford when he is conscripted by the city’s mages and prevented from leaving on pain of death. At the same time the city has become terrorised by a spate of murders, and the killer has a taste for dead mages…

Tell us about yourself.
Ha, this feels like those awful seminars where a group of strangers have to stand up and introduce themselves in front of the class. Ahem.

I’m Thaddeus White, self-published author. Mostly I enjoy reading fantasy and history, and I also follow F1. I bet on it a bit (with rather mixed results, this season’s been a bit ropey, but I did tip Jenson Button to win in 2009 at 70/1), and tennis as well.

Here’s a tip: put money on Vettel. Problem solved. Now, do you have a website where we can keep up with your work?
I certainly do.
http://thaddeuswhite.weebly.com/index.html is my official site where I focus entirely on books, writing and that sort of thing. As well as lore about the world of Bane of Souls/Journey to Altmortis I also put up artwork (larger versions of the covers/maps) and keep a writing blog.

How can we follow you on Twitter and/or Facebook?
My Twitter account is here: @MorrisF1
As well as writing and book-related stuff I also post quite a lot about Formula 1. Took me a little while to get into Twitter, but I think it’s pretty useful.

What’s next?
Next is an as yet untitled short comedy. Comedy is a new challenge, which I’m enjoying, and I’m pretty happy with the initial chapters. It’s set in a fantasy world but a different one to Bane of Souls/Journey to Altmortis. I’m hoping to get it released in time for Christmas.

The first draft of the very first scene can be found here.
