My new book, “The Lonely Man: The Witch’s Price“, is an heroic fantasy novel centered around the man called Mhets the Mirthless. In stealing the treasure of a god and destroying a nation, Mhets is sought by the gods themselves to answer for his atrocities. Mhets, desperate, enlists the aid of a witch. But the witch’s help becomes something he never envisioned.

Mhets the Mirthless? Great name. Tell us more about him.
Mhets is a troubled old man. Notorious as the catalyst for the downfall of the nation of Ashlare, he’s taken to a quieter life of thievery. Yet his past still haunts him, a past riddled with dashed hopes and tragedy. He comes off as bitter and selfish, and justifies those traits by blaming the gods for his hardships. A glimmer of heroism does manage to twinkle in his eyes.

What genre is it?
It’s heroic fantasy with shades of swords and sorcery. It was inspired by Conan.

Conan? What else is out there that might indicate that we’d love this book?
If you like Conan and David Gemmell, you’ll love my book.

It’ll appeal to all levels of fantasy readers (barring children), as well as anyone in search of a fantastic and emotional adventure.

How would you like the reader to feel as they read the last word of your book?
I’d want them to feel hopeful. My desire in everything I write – dark or not – is to portray the goodness underlying evil. There are bad men, but those men can do amazing things for good.

What other things have you written?
I have a duology out, “The Paruus Histories”, consisting of book one, “The Pale Hand of God“, and the second book, “The Dark Arm of God.” The series is dark fantasy, centering on a world ruled by ambitious and ignorant people. The ignorance holds the world in bondage while the ambitions of certain men seek to ruin it. So far the series is the most, for the lack of a better word, ‘ambitious’ undertaking I’ve attempted. But the world is amazing and the characters wonderful. I wholly recommend it.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I live in Louisville, KY, near the Ohio river. I grew up in a small town having big adventures. I attended Spalding University for Creative Writing but put that on hiatus in light of my publishing career. I currently focus on writing fantasy novels, and have started reviewing other Indie authors’ works.

Really? Where?
smwhitefiction.com It has posted short stories, excerpts from all my novels, and a blog where I occasionally manage to sound intelligent.

How can we follow you on Twitter and/or Facebook?
@smwhitefiction

On Facebook as S.M. White.

What’s next?
Up next I have planned two more standalone novels dealing with Mhets and his adventures, as well as a series titled, “Visions of Eternity.”
