Reed Ferguson is a wannabe private eye with a love of film noir and detective fiction. Reed’s first case is a daring adventure, complete with a dose of humor. Reed must find the missing husband of a rich, attractive femme fatale…a case just like his heroes of old. Reed is inexperienced, but not incapable, and he follows the clues in spite of a bevy of twists and turns.

With a great supporting cast of the Goofball Brothers, Reed’s not too bright neighbors, and Cal, Reed’s computer geek friend, This Doesn’t Happen In The Movies is detective noir at its best. Follow Reed as he solves crime akin to his cinematic hero, Humphrey Bogart.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
This Doesn’t Happen In The Movies will appeal to mystery readers who like a bit of humor in their stories. It is not hard-boiled, but a lighthearted and thoroughly engaging mystery.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love This Doesn’t Happen In The Movies.
If you like Janet Evanovich, you’ll love my book.

This book is described as “A Reed Ferguson Mystery”. Sounds like we need to get to know him a bit better.
Reed Ferguson has never had a “real” job, much to the chagrin of his parents. With a trust fund left to him by his grandparents, Reed never had to establish a career. He loves film noir and old detective fiction, and he decides that he’s going to try his hand at the detective business. When he gets his first client, he realizes he may have got more than he bargained for, but Reed is smart, and not a quitter. Reed also has a great sense of humor, and a love for his goofy friends.

And we’re guessing we’ll see him and his gang of accomplices in other books?
This Doesn’t Happen In The Movies is the first in the Reed Ferguson mystery series. The other books are, in order, Reel Estate Rip-off and The Maltese Felon. There is also a short story Elvis And The Sports Card Cheat.

Any non-Reed Ferguson novels?
I have also written a supernatural thriller, Nephilim Genesis of Evil, a middle-grade adventure book (The Emerald Quest), a historical fiction novel for kids (This War We’re In), a short story collection (Take Five), and a non-fiction book about a haunted house investigation (The Sallie House: Exposing The Beast Within)

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am in the IT world, working as a data analyst, business analyst and web developer. In a past life, I was a counselor for abused teens. I’m an avid collector of sports memorabilia and I love to read and play guitar. In between all that, I also love to hike and ride my bike.

No point asking a web developer this, but do you have a website?

What’s next?
I have some more books to write in the Reed Ferguson mystery series, and I want to finish the Nephilim trilogy. There’s always a novel waiting to be written…
