Letho Ferron was just one of many citizens living out a mundane existence aboard the colonization vessel Centennial Fulcrum. However, an encounter with the Fulcrum’s law enforcement agents forces Letho into exile in the bowels of the ship where he finds respite among the Slave Bears, a mysterious subservient race. It is there that Letho begins to uncover the truth about the Fulcrum, the Slave Bears, and his true identity. When a group of terrifying alien marauders attack the ship, Letho is forced to decide. Will he forever be just an asocial misfit? Or can he lead both races to freedom?

What is Centennial Fulcrum?
There are at least twenty to a hundred stations still in service. They are all called Fulcrum Stations.  Letho’s station is called the Centennial Fulcrum.

We love the idea of Slave Bears. What genre is this book?
I am most comfortable calling it Science Fiction Fantasy, what folks in the know would call Space Opera.  I kind of feel like the average joe would look at you funny if you used the words “space” and “opera” back to back.  It also has elements of horror.

What demographic is it aimed at?
It was written in the vein of  young adult fiction that could also appeal to adults as well.

Is there anything out there like it?
Star Wars, Avatar, Firefly.

Tell us a bit more about Letho.
Letho is a nobody, a slacker living on a space station  with a dubious objective and destination.  He hates his job and feels as though his existence is utterly meaningless.  He discovers that he has a greater destiny than he could have ever imagined when his path crosses with an alien race referred to as the slave bears.

Letho’s story is set into motion when he is chased to the underneath, the lower, maintenance level of his space station by law enforcement agents.  There he meets the slave bears, a sentient race that maintains the space station for the humans.  Why they are on the space stations is a mystery, as is why they serve the humans.  Letho is surprised to learn that he is able to speak the complicated language of the slave bears with a little help.

Letho is forced to face his destiny when a group of inhuman marauders attack his space station and begin kidnapping its citizens for an unknown purpose.

This is the start of a series, right?
It’s a planned trilogy (quadrilogy?)

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a husband and father of a five year old daughter.  I teach orchestra at the local high school for a living.  I like to write (obviously), draw, and make music for fun.
