For a thief, getting caught is never a good thing. Getting caught by a wizard is even worse. But when a man is coerced into stealing a mythical prize, threatened with his very life, and compelled to cooperate with his worst enemy—well, a man’s got to do what he’s told. From a dungeon black as night to the top of a mountain peak shrouded in legend, Crow must outlast the elements, outmaneuver the guardians of the coveted treasure, and outsmart his captor. Even then, his success might level an empire and seal his fate.

What genre is it?
Fantasy Adventure

What kind of readers will it appeal to?

Tell us a bit more about Crow.
Master thief Crow has built up a nice nest egg, found the gem of his heart, and is all ready to settle down on a lovely island and start his own brood. His plans suffer a setback when he’s caught acquiring an engagement present for his sweetheart. Things take a decided turn for the worse when he’s paired with Tanris, a lawman who’s dogged Crow’s heels for years. Tanris’s nobility and innate good-heartedness continually thwart Crow’s plans and ruffle his feathers. On a journey complicated by poison, magic, and suspicion, Crow learns more than he ever suspected about his old nemesis—and some unexpected things about himself. The question is, what’s he to do with what he learns?

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
I currently have two short stories published: “In the Mirror,” and “Dragonlace.”

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born in Maryland, but spent several years in Oregon and did a short stint in upstate New York before moving to Utah. I married an artist, and together we have four wonderful children. Reading and writing have always been a part of my life, and I am particularly drawn to fantasy. Before I managed the art of the pen I dictated my first fiction—a tale about a rabbit—to a scribe (my sister). My mother often headed up expeditions to the library, from which the entire party invariably returned laden with a stack of books guaranteed to make the arms longer. I read everything voraciously, and when I finished my stack, I’d start on my mother’s… and then my sisters’. Today I write tales about wizards and magic, fantastical places and extraordinary journeys.

What’s next?
I am currently working on a fantasy series in which an unwitting pawn in an empire-spanning contest must rely on the very magic used to mutate him in order to escape and prevent his would-be master from gaining control of a throne.
