Interview with Logan Snyder, author of Senate Proof

What can you tell us about Senate Proof?

Senate Proof is a thriller that combines two of my favorite loves – a good bourbon and a fun thriller plot. Set against the backdrop of the nation’s capital, a generations-old bootleg distillery finds itself in the midst of a power struggle between the younger generation and old guard, turning time-tested allies into foes. Cloaked in secrecy, the elite circle of political leaders had operated the distillery without incident for decades while producing barrel after barrel of illegal spirits, among other ventures. But things were beginning to change.

Caroline left a promising career on Wall Street and moved to rural Virginia to solve the mystery that had haunted her throughout her entire life – her father’s murder. She uncovers ties between her new employer and her father, and before long, she finds herself the target of the distillery’s powerful, entrenched political entourage, sending her running for her life.

Unwillingly forced into harm’s way, her new friend, Jackson, relies on his cunning instinct to try and solve a crime that reaches into the depths of the US Senate and Supreme Court. As the body count rises, questions begin to swirl around the District and nobody knows who to trust.

What genre is it?

Senate Proof is a thriller – with a touch of politics and a splash of whiskey.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?

This book will appeal to the suspense/thriller masses. Readers will be able to empathize with Caroline, the main character, and will find themselves pulling for an underdog, womanizing law student, Jackson Cole. With an accurate account of bootleg spirits distilling, readers will also get a history lesson in the old Southern aristocratic crime rings.

How long did it take to write?

Senate Proof took about 9 months to write.

What was the most challenging part of your creative process?

Getting started. You have so many ideas running through your head, it’s hard to actually put pen to paper and begin the story. I wrote with a very broad outline, so I was able to improvise on the fly as the plot thickened. But by far, the most challenging part of the creative process was getting started. And not just at the beginning, but getting started each and every session–making yourself dive into the creative realm.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

When I’m not writing, you can find me working in the investments world in Boston, where I live with my wife and our boxer, Tessie, who also happens to be responsible for slobbering all over my laptop. I earned a law degree from the University of Louisville and an MBA from Notre Dame. Prior to graduate school, I attended and played baseball at Louisville. Growing up in the shadows of Kentucky’s famous bourbon distilleries and world famous Churchill Downs, I developed a strong passion for both vices. I like my bourbon on the rocks, and I always box my exacta at the track. I love the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame football, and Louisville basketball.

Have you got a blog where readers can keep up with your work?

I don’t have a blog, but please follow me on Facebook and Twitter (@thelogansnyder).

Where can we buy Senate Proof?

It is currently available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

What’s next?

I’m finalizing my outline for my next project which is turning into a dark financial thriller. Stay tuned.
