Interview with Tasha Harrison, author of Pearls
My most recent book is called Pearls. It’s about three very different women – a recovering alcoholic-turned-meditation teacher, an ambitious magazine designer and a cleaner – whose lives converge when they each try to follow or resist fate. It’s set in both London, Brighton and Devon in the Eighties and the current day. What genre is it? In the vein of? As it’s about women, I think Pearls will therefore mainly appeal to women. While the story covers some serious issues, such as self-belief and damaged relationships, there’s also an element of comedy that keeps it from getting too dark. Tell us about these women. Miriam’s life is a sea of tranquility, but for one thing: the damage her past behaviour has caused can’t be undone. Meanwhile, Charlie, who takes a job cleaning Katherine’s flat, builds up a profile of her employer that couldn’t be more wrong. All three women are on an emotional journey that forces them to face up to their pasts before they can move forward. Have you written any other books that we should read next? Hot Property is a similar comedy about a group of British expats who are all chasing the sun, sea and sand dream on the Greek island of Crete. But their hopes of living an idyllic lifestyle are threatened by a ruthless but irresistible property dealer. Tell us a bit about yourself. Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work? What’s next? I’m also working on a collection of humorous short stories for children called The Adventures of Fartina Gasratilova. I hope both will be ready for publication by the end of 2013 or soon after. |
