I have been around some of the most famous athletes of all time and worked for and with some of sports televisions most iconic figures. Those experiences and inside stories about the television industry are sprinkled throughout the book’s 500 pages.

It’s the first book to detail the humble and exciting beginnings of The Golf Channel, now a multi billion dollar member of the Comcast/NBC family.  It includes stories about Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Dick Vitale, Scott Van Pelt, Keith Olbermann and many, many more and is touching, humorous and informative.

How did you gain such unfettered access? And why write the book?
The book is both a tribute to my parents who were pioneers in the field of local affiliate television and a look back at my more than 30 years in the broadcast television industry. I cut my teeth at my day’s local station in Reno, Nevada and went on to work at the national level for ESPN, ESPN2 and The Golf Channel. Working as a producer I was part of the very first days of ESPN2 when that network launched in 1993 and was one of the first 40 people hired when The Golf Channel made television history in 1995.

We’ve interviewed famous golfers, but are intensely curious about how things worked on the other side of the lens. But who else will this book appeal to?
I think it will appeal to sports fans, golf fans and anyone interested in a behind the scenes look at the television industry. It is also a personal story about a child who loved, respected and learned so much from his parents.

Tell us about that long and storied career of yours.
I have been in the broadcast television business since the late 1970’s and have worked both in front of and behind the camera at the local and national level. I travelled the country working at stations from Nevada to Connecticut and then working sporting events all across America and the world.

I have seen my share of both success and failure and try to deal with both with integrity and fairness in the book.

What’s your life like now?
I live in New Jersey with my wife and, we hope, soon a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. I am a father, a husband and a TV producer. I didn’t intend to become an author but after both my parents passed away, my wife convinced me to start writing down stories about my experiences so my children weren’t learning about their Dad while going through boxes of memories. I enjoyed writing so much I intend to tackle non-fiction next.

We love the title of your book, by the way.
Cover Me Boys, I’m Going In is the phrase I say to my announcer and broadcast team in the seconds before every show I produce hits the air. It’s an expression that I hope conveys that we are all in this together.
