The Garden of Good & Eden is set in a rural county in Kentucky where you meet the heroine, Eden Daire, who has been adopted by a very large Catholic family. You quickly learn that Eden has a host of special talents that set her apart from everyone else: she can make plants grow at will, communicate on some level with animals, and even heal them. No one has any answers and she has wondered her whole life where she came from. That all changes on the night she turns 25 years old. Her whole world explodes as creatures she never knew existed show up and say things about a “prophecy” and calling her a “princess.”

Soon, she learns who her real parents are and that she is the key to an ancient prophecy that will topple nations. You will meet satyrs, fairies, brownies, gnomes, and so many more as they all vie for her attention. But Eden remains loyal to the human family that raised her and there is a threat looming over them that only she can eliminate. How will she balance the love and loyalty she feels for her family and the new responsibilities she has for the unseen world?

What genre is it?
I would say that this book is a mix of paranormal and fantasy. I guess you could even call it science fiction, but that may be stretching it. It has comedy, love, action, and more all rolled into one.

If you like Charlaine Harris or Jim Butcher, you’ll love my book.

Tell us a little more about Eden.
Eden Daire has known her whole life that she was different than everyone else. Not just because she was adopted, but because she could do things no one else could do. Strange things tend to happen around her that no one can explain: not her family, her mysterious best friend, or even the books she reads looking for answers.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
I think it would appeal to any readers who enjoy being entertained. It’s a good story that could appeal to men or women, but I would definitely rate it as PG-13 due to adult language, some nudity, and violence.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a married mother of three who has wanted to write my whole life. I work a 9-5 job where I daydream about what’s happening in my characters’ lives until I can get back home to write it all down. I live in southeast Kentucky and love to drink sweet tea.

Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work?
You can follow me on Twitter or on Facebook, but I don’t have an independent website yet.

In that case you’d better give us your social media links.
My Twitter handle is @pauletteoakes and you can like my page
www.facebook.com/pauletteoakeswrites for info on upcoming releases and promotions.

What’s next?
I have a new short story coming out and book two, “Getting Eden,” should be available in November or December 2013. I am also working on a chick lit rom/com with plenty of humor and dripping sarcasm.
