Pick any world with a central government and you will find intrigue and conspiracy. “City of the Gods: Guardian” takes place in a universe where all the gods of myth retreated when the people of earth lost faith in them. In this realm they recreated their old domains, ruled over by a grand council of elected gods. Without mankind to torment, their plotting turned toward one another, with the favored mortals they stole away from Earth caught in the crossfire.

“Guardian” continues the trials and adventures of D’Molay, a man who holds the trust of the ruling council. Working as their messengers, he and his loyal friends discover a horrible secret about the power that sustains the eternal world. This knowledge places them in grave danger as they race to save thousands of lives by exposing the terrible truth.

What genre is this?
City of the Gods: Guardian” is an adventurous, mythic fantasy. Supernatural beings and creatures from many cultures are featured as characters.

Readers who like sword and sorcery, epic fantasy, and supernatural mysteries will enjoy the “City of the Gods” series. Many familiar mythological characters appear in the story (Zeus, Odin, etc.) which make the tale and setting immediately accessible to the audience.

Tell us a bit more about your main characters
There is a strong ensemble of featured characters in “Guardian.” The leader is disillusioned Knight Templar Jacque D’Molay, who struggles to reconcile his past beliefs with his current immortal existence. He is aided by the compassionate goddess Mazu, who wrestles with moral conflicts of her own, and her servant Quan, a normal guy without talents or powers trying to stay alive in a dangerous world.

You say this is a series, right?
“Guardian” is a sequel, so take a look at its predecessor “City of the Gods: Forgotten.” However, you do not need to have read “Forgotten” to enjoy “Guardian.” There is also a short story anthology set in this universe called “Mythic Tales” as well as the comic books “Pantheon” and “The Last Goddess.”

So how do the two of you work together?
M. Scott Verne and I have worked together on many projects over the years. In fact, the “City of the Gods” novels grew from a indie comic book we published in the mid-1990s. Working with another author is a great way to keep one’s own creativity flowing. We often find ourselves inspired by an idea or plot device that the other has brainstormed. Blending writing styles is a challenge, but I feel we did particularly well with that, especially in “Guardian.”

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I have worked in the gaming and comics industries under other pen names and have scripted radio and television commercials as well as short documentaries. Most recently my focus has been on my novel series with an eye toward adapting them for the screen in the future.

How easily do new storylines come to you? If we give you four random words – Man, Woman, Airport, Darkness – can you give us a brief storyline?
In 1963, at a remote airstrip south of Casper, Wyoming, a small plane crashed while trying to land in bad weather, killing its two passengers, the male pilot and a scandalous actress fleeing Hollywood. Fifty years have passed; the airstrip is long abandoned and the incident forgotten. However, in the darkness, the man and woman remain, their spirits locked in conflict over an ancient power deep in the land that can restore one of them to life.
