This is a novel about a high school reunion in a small (fictional) town. The class of 1988 has never had a reunion, and their 25th will be their first.

Sounds like the perfect recipe for drama. Tell us the story.
The story follows the lives of four main characters, two men and two women, who never really had much to do with each other as classmates. It examines the angst of teenage life, the hurts that are so magnified at that age, and we see what these four people have become. It does touch on some important issues (domestic violence, cancer, and homosexuality). And it takes the reader right up to the night of the reunion.

Tell us about these four characters.
A former “ugly duckling,” Kellie has transformed in both beauty and attitude, though she carries with her deep emotional scars. Will facing those who once wronged her help or do even more damage to her delicate psyche?

Joe was adored by everyone in school. Well…almost everyone. Being gay in a close-minded small town, he knew he had no future in West Alton, so right after graduation, he traded one ocean for another. Now an Oscar-winning Hollywood director, Joe is ready to return. Except that it means having to face the horrific event that ultimately pushed him away.

Cheerleader Cherry planned this reunion to make peace with those she may have wronged in school. But as she faces her mortality, she wonders if she can make things right again.

That’s three. Who’s the fourth?
And then there’s Scott, who stayed in West Alton and has been collecting a disability pension from the town for a suspicious back injury.

What genre is this?
Contemporary fiction.

I believe it will appeal to men and women alike, and anyone who has experienced a high school reunion!

If you like an ending that satisfies, you’ll like my book.

Is this all based on your school days?
I had a much happier high school experience than Kellie.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
I have a trilogy published, and you’ve been kind enough to share my debut novel in the past (interview here). The “Chocolate Series” is Chocolate for Breakfast, its sequel Chocolate Fondue, and the final book in the trilogy, Bittersweet Chocolate.

We remember that. We loved those books.
Tell us about yourself.
After ending an accomplished career as a fraud investigator, I began writing, and am finally doing what I love. My husband and I live in Rhode Island, never far from the ocean.

What’s next?
A novel set in 1976. Bicentennial, a birthday, and betrayal!

Come back and tell us about it when it’s done.
How easily do new storylines come to you? If we give you four random words  – Man, Woman, Airport, Darkness – can you give us a brief storyline?
I’m just a man who mops floors in the airport. Women walk past me all the time, but one woman caught my eye. Well, she actually slipped on the wet floor. But I helped her up, she smiled at me, her hand was warm, and the darkness in my soul dissipated like morning fog.
