Alador is a half breed caught between two cultures. It is the story of teenage angst at growing up. The rage of dealing with bullies. The criticism and judgments that many of mixed races face.

In Alador’s case, he is combating racial prejudice, magic and a cruel bully trying to fit in and win the love of his best friend. It is a lot to overcome for just one young man. Then we add to all that, the fantasy element of a dragon’s geas.

A dragon’s what?
I am often asked, what the heck is an geas. It can be either a magically imposed act that must be fulfilled or a prohibition. In Alador’s case, it is a imposed quest, a task that he is pressured by magic to complete.

This is the start of a series, right? Tell us about it.
The Blue Dragon’s Geas is definitely a series inspired by the work I do as a counselor and at the same time, my love of fantasy. Specifically, I love dragons. I like dragons that have witty comments and motives greater then, “I shall eat you.”

I am working on book two in the series. I am about half way through it at this time. It will be called The Blackguard.

What genre are these novels?
The Blue Dragon’s Geas: Outcast is a coming of age book for older YA and adult markets. While it is definitely an epic fantasy, it focuses more on the characters then the fantasy elements.

We’d better begin to meet these characters then. Tell us what we need to know about Alador.
Alador is a very insecure and impulsive young man on the edge of being an adult in the Daezun culture. His perceptions have twisted his views of reality and are cemented by small random facts. He is a half breed and in many ways lives on the outside of village life. Barely tolerated but still allowed to remain in the village, he dances on the edges trying not to be noticed.

When events outside his control thrust him into the limelight, his struggles to adjust and find where he fits in again are palpable. He is desperate to reach his goal to gain enough acceptance that he can ask the girl he loves to be his housemate.

Have you written anything else that we should read next?
I have two children’s books out that involved my favorite topic: Dragons. They are How the Dragons Got Their Colors and Not an Egg!

You really are obsessed with dragons! What else do we need to know about you?
I graduated from Western Washington University as an English Education Major. Later, I returned to school and obtained my credentials as a Chemical Dependency Professional. I am currently uses this combination of education to teach life skills and healthy balance to those suffering from the disease of addiction. Despite my love of counseling, writing has remained my passion. I actually spend most of my free time involved in creative past times that include writing and exploring roleplay environments. As a grandmother of three and mother of four, I am very devoted to instilling the love of reading and writing in her family. All of my children write in some capacity and share my creative passion for fantasy and lore. My oldest granddaughter recently told me she is going to be a “rider” just like me.
