Brilliant Disguise is the first book in The Detective Charlie McClung Mysteries. It is set in Georgia during the early 1980s when times were a little more simple but crime-solving more difficult.

Charlie is giving up his quest for the girl his granny said was waiting for him. So he moves away from the big city and his close-knit family in search of a new life in a small town police department. But during the investigation of an apparent suicide, he meets Marian Selby.

Marian swore never to love again after the death of her husband but her feelings for McClung are fighting for control.

What should be a simple suicide turns into a tangled web of deceit, corruption, and complicated shadows. Can the two of them comes to grips with their feeling for each other before the killer closes in on them?

You’ve said that this novel launches a new mystery series; who is it aimed at?
Brilliant Disguise will appeal to a wide audience. Readers who want a good, clean, easy read. Readers who enjoy mysteries and romance. My fans included men and women, young and mature. I refused to say old.

Very wise indeed. Which other mystery writer is this series reminiscent of?
Agatha Christie.

Oh wow, those are huge shoes to fill. Introduce us to the cast you’re going to do it with.
My main character, Detective Charlie McClung, is 47, Irish, handsome, very much a gentleman, and sexy. He is single because he’s looking for the woman his granny said was waiting for him. Charlie loves his family and his job.

The second main character is Marian Francis Selby. She is also 47 and a stunning beauty. Her beloved husband, Lee, was killed in a plane crash leaving her a very rich widow. Marian can’t let go of him even though it has been 11 years since he died. Marian is a master gardener and an excellent cook.

Joan Delaney is Marian’s best friend. Three times married and currently single, Joan is a seamless blend of Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe with Carol Burnett’s laugh and humor. Joan owns the local posh restaurant, The Primrose Cottage.

We like the sound of Joan. What about you?
I wish I had Marian’s gardening and cookie baking skills. I have a pale green thumb at best. And cookies, I don’t want to discuss that. It makes me sad to think about it. But I do have her devotion to her husband. I’ve been married for 33 years to the most practically perfect man I’ve ever known. I would never be able to move on without him. And I have a good friend and loyal, Gina, who will always be there to support me.

Tell us about the rest of your life.
Well, I don’t have any children. I LOVE to travel and to bake but not cookies. I mentioned earlier I’ve been married for 33 years to the most perfect man. I was born in Mercedes, Texas, but I have lived in Georgia for 51 years. I love animals. And I could go on an on about myself. Send me an email if you have any questions. My life is pretty much an open book. Oh, I cannot self-edit. I write like a monkey.

Monkeys don’t write; they type Shakespeare!

What’s next?
The next book in the series is A Good Girl. It will be released in September, 2014. So far, I have eight more books planned in the series. Who knows how far Charlie and Marian will go?

Eight?! Where on earth do you get all the material?
Charlie is based on my husband, my father, and my father-in-law. Marian is based on me, my mother, my best friend, and my mother-in-law. I know it sounds weird but I like to pull from what I know. There are a few made-up traits in each as well.
