Why you must read Heather Hildenbrand’s Deviation

Dystopian young adult fiction

Buy at Amazon

Ven, an Imitation, is forced to pose as her human Authentic in a world full of money-grubbing, power-hunger social elites sporting pasted on smiles and forward fashions. No one is honest about their agenda and no one really likes her to begin with.

Ven aches to tell someone the truth about her: she’s a petri-dish creation grown in a lab and forced into this life against her will. But to admit the truth about herself would seal her fate with the simple push of a button lodged underneath her skin. A ticking time bomb of consequences. And when she’s done serving her purpose, Ven has no doubt her Creator/guardian will push that button. Unless someone else can get to it first. Someone who loves her enough to see past the manufactured ingredients that make up Ven’s insides and help her find a way to be free.

How would you describe this book?
The idea of StarCrossed meets Gossip Girl.

Very clever. What genre would that make it?
Deviation is a fun new twist on YA dystopian mixed with a little sci-fi and a lot of yummy love.

Deviation is the second book in your Clone Chronicles series. How should we approach it?
Imitation, book 1 in the series, is a good place to start.

Good idea. In the meantime, tell us about Ven.
Ven is meek, there’s no way around that. Or at least at the beginning. But she comes into her own pretty fast when she finds out exactly what she’s dealing with in her assignment and her guardian, Titus. She has to get creative and also has to decide between blind obedience and self-preservation. So, her strength builds pretty quickly with a black and white kind of choice like that.

Have you written any books outside of the Clone Chronicles?
I also write the Dirty Blood series, a YA Paranormal about werewolf hunters.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
Sure! I’m a mother of two and I split my time between writing and my author coaching business where I equip new writers in the business and process of self-publishing successfully. I live sometimes in Va Beach and sometimes in Guam. Yep, Guam. it’s pretty fantastic and I’m super lucky I get to do that!

Oh, and I love motorcycles. I own 3 right now.

Guam? We’re jealous!
Do you use social media?
@HeatherHildenbr — but I suck at keeping up with Twitter, just so you know.

Maybe we should just check out your website instead. Where is it?

What’s next for you?
I am working on a new project that I can’t actually talk about yet! Grrr. That’s tough but it’s exciting and lovely and so NEW. I love it. And somewhere in the middle of that, I found time to launch a new self-publishing course for aspiring authors. They can purchase and download the audio sessions on their own time, like a home study course. It’s very cool and PACKED with info!
