Your book has a message; does this not get in the way of the story you are trying to tell?
I think that the book addresses universal issues that most teens face. Sexuality issues just give it another twist keeping the message in the forefront.

You are giving a part of the proceeds to charity. Can you tell us a little about your chosen charities?
The two charities that a portion of my proceeds will go to are The Ali Forney Center in New York City and Time Out Youth in Charlotte, NC.  I’ve selected both of these programs because they assist homeless LGBTQ youth.  40% of LGBTQ youth are homeless. It’s baffling to me that anyone in the United States is homeless let alone children or young adults.  These programs due a great deal to assist them.

Well said. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I was born and raised in Warwick, NY. I have been a social worker for about twenty years. I have always wanted to help children and feel that my books are an extension of what I’ve done professionally. The goals of my books are to reach the population that so many ignore and cast away. I’d like to be a positive force in a world where they face so much negativity. I recently relocated to the Charlotte, North Carolina area with my partner of fourteen years.

What’s next?
My next book has a main character that becomes aware of her sexuality at a very young age. Unlike my previous characters she is completely comfortable with it. Her journey focuses on her tumultuous relationship with her extremely religious mother’s response to her sexuality.
