Remains is the story of a teenage witch, Victoria, who rejects her powers and heritage out of fear. When tragedy hits close to home and she loses everything she realizes how important they are to her. She goes on a journey to figure out what her purpose is and what exactly led to her parents deaths. Along the way she makes friends and enemies and meets a mysterious vampire who promises he can get her all the answers she needs. Victoria struggles between being safe and logical and completely irrational in order to get what she wants. Can she get closure and still hold onto her morals?

Oh, that’s great. Tell us a little about Victoria.
Victoria Wesley at the start of the book is a very typical thirteen year old girl. She’s smart but doesn’t really apply herself, she thinks she knows more than her parents, she talks back to teachers, she lets her crazy friends talk her into things,but most importantly she is a very good person at heart. Like most kids her age she has no desire to be the bad guy she just wants things to go her way.

When she’s forced to leave home she meets people who are completely different from her. Some with just as much emotional baggage as she has and some who have had everything handed to them. She learns from each and every one of them and eventually realizes that the world is much bigger than her and her problems. She has to help others in order to help herself.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
Not yet but this is the first part of a trilogy.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a recent grad student and first time author. I have been writing poetry for years but only realized I wanted to write a novel when I was in college. I started writing Remains the last semester of my senior year and spent more time on the book than I did on my school work.

How easily do new storylines come to you? If we give you four random words – Man, Woman, Mexico, Future – can you give us a brief storyline?
A man and a woman sitting closely on a train. Not a noteworthy scenario. Certainly not one that would make anyone look twice. But she looks sideways every few seconds and then back to the book in front of her when he looks her way. Her cheeks tint pink and he smiles but says nothing. He could ask what she is reading and she might be thrilled. It would start a long conversation that would lead to coffee. And coffee would lead to dinner. And dinner would lead a date, three dates, a declaration of love. One “I love you too.”A proposal on the last day of their vacation in Mexico… “Excuse me,” she says standing up “sorry this is my stop.” “No problem,” he replies moving so she can get around him. She’s still blushing he notes as she dashes out the door of the train.

Maybe they could have had a future together. Maybe kids and a dog. Maybe a two car garage. The door closes back and he thinks that maybe he’ll say something next time.
