Dead Reckoning is an unconventional literary novel told in 1st person present tense. It’s a gritty philosophical comedy set in and around prison exploring themes of corruption, drug culture and morality. The reader is party to the constant cerebral monologue of the protagonist as he obsesses over every detail of his existence.

Who is the protagonist?
In Dead Reckoning you’ll step into the polished boots of Mr B, an institutionalised prison officer with control issues and deteriorating mental health.

Told ‘in the moment’, this novel takes you on an alcohol-fuelled struggle to rid the prison of drugs, with exactly the opposite result: there’s more heroin in the prison than there is on the surrounding streets. So much so, that it can only be down to corrupt staff – a fact which Mr B finds impossible to ignore, especially when he inadvertently becomes one of them!

We’re already intrigued. What genre is this book?
Literary fiction, Comedy, Crime, Psychological – take your pick. I’ll let you decide.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
If you’re the sort of person who is offended by violence, drug smuggling, prostitution and corruption then maybe you ought to buy something from the romance section. But if you have an edgy sense of humour and like unconventional fiction, this gritty novel will teach you a riotous lesson about morality. Adult audiences only. Actual maturity not required.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love Dead Reckoning.
Laughing, and unique literary fiction.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
This is my debut novel. I have some other bits on bobs on the boil however.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) as an actor before serving as a Prison Officer for over 10 years at four of the most notorious prisons in the country. I recently graduated a Master’s Degree with merit from the Department of Criminology at Leicester University. In March 2013 I had a brain hemmerage, after an aneurysm burst in my brain. I almost didn’t get to publish my novel. I’d love it if you read it.

Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work?
www.crimescript.com.

How can we follow you on Twitter and/or Facebook?
@crimescript.

What’s next?
Film script. Collection of future letters. Another novel. I can’t focus.
