My most recent paperback is a multi-genre novel called OUT OF THE PAST. It is a story told in three distinct parts, each necessary to the other, and merging smoothing toward the end to build a satisfying and complete story.

The blurb reads as follows:

A series of killings has the Toronto Police Department in turmoil. The press has labelled the killer a “werewolf” and hysteria is on the rise in the heat of the summer… Detective Damien Knightley is the lead investigator, but he’s got secrets of his own that need guarding in this very public investigation. Knightley is a vampire, and as the case gets more complex, what he discovers has him both baffled and worried.

In the Northern Ontario town of Brighton, a visionary woman finds a stranger outside her door, and because he’s near death she brings him into her home. In the wake of her kindness, dreams and visions expose things that terrify her. The stranger is a wolf, and history is about to repeat itself and explode in violent death if they can’t reach Toronto and capture a renegade on a blood-hunt.

As Damien recalls a love from a century ago, the threads of time are being pulled together, joining the past and the present. The beautiful woman he is falling in love with is bringing back memories he’d rather forget, and when the killer is finally revealed, there are more questions than answers in the identity…

You say it’s multi-genre – which ones?
Contemporary mystery with paranormal elements, and an historical back-story that is set in Victorian London.

Tell us a bit more about Detective Damien Knightley
The main character in this book is a detective who also happens to be a vampire. Mistakes made 100 years ago come back to haunt him when he meets a woman who reminds him of someone he once loved. When her life is threatened, Damien has to come to terms with a lot of the unsettled things in his past, as well as solve a series of murders that also connect with his past in an unexpected way.

Sounds intriguing. What kind of readers will it appeal to?
Anyone who enjoys paranormal, romance, mystery, and a story that is complex and compelling.

Complete this sentence for us: if you like _________________, you’ll love Out of the Past.
Authors like Lara Adrian, Nalini Singh, or Lori Foster….

How would you like the reader to feel as they read the last word of your book?
That they’ve read a satisfying and entertaining story. I hope it makes them smile and that they’d like to read more.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
Yes, the one I’d suggest after this one is another paranormal mystery called SHADES OF DEATH.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m Canadian born and bred, and I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. My first published work came back in 1984 in a fan fiction zine, and from there I spent almost twenty years learning and honing my presentation of a story. It was a great training ground! My life has had several on-going love affairs that shape much of what I write, the American West, Victorian England, cowboys, a passion for pirates, Greek Gods, and Ancient Egypt. The other endless love affair in my life is Italia and all its magic, beauty, and dazzling culture. That passion spills into all aspects of my life.

My first major fantasy novel was AS FATE DECREES. (Available at bookstores everywhere, and on Amazon’s international sites.) The novel relies heavily on Greek Mythology, and is set in Ancient Greece and modern Athens. If you enjoy a tale of Gods, Destiny, and the battles of an Eternal Champion, this is the book for you! Not surprisingly, there’s a touch of romance throughout, of course! A visit to my website will show the diversity of what is currently available, and the mixing of genres and styles that will be employed in many up-coming projects as well. The Italian influence is in evidence with several of the more important works, as many people already know. 2013 is going to be a year of many exciting new ventures, so I hope you’ll come along for the ride!

What’s next?
I’m currently in first edits with Noble Romance for a new novella, have committed three more novellas and shorts to Ellora’s Cave, and have contracts signed for another three books with New Dawning Book Fair. I also hope to have another fantasy novel written and submitted by end of year.
