Interview with Dr Claire Gaudry, author of The Power of True Learning

Tell us about The Power of True Learning.

The Power of True Learning was published this summer on Kindle. It is an inquisitive journey into what learning could really be. It questions pre-established dogmas and explores learning with a curious, imaginative and sometimes even metaphysical angle. As readers have put in reviews, it will make you ask questions! From observing nature’s behaviour to scientific explorations, this work presents much wisdom and acts as a catalyst to open more of your own wisdom. It can all be easily applied in practical business and daily life. This is an insightful book that will stimulate your curiosity and invite you into a whole new relationship with learning, yourself and your leadership.

What genre is it?

It is non-fiction, about mindsets and learning for authentic leadership.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?

The writing will appeal to individuals who are questioning, who are interested in a higher perspective than what is ‘taught’ as facts. It is for those who have or want to grow a creative and explorative mind as well as develop an inspired and inspiring journey in their work.

Here is the latest review posted by a reader on Amazon:

Whichever way you read the title, “The Power of True Learning” or as I mistakenly (or subconsciously?) read it as “The Power of Learning is Truth” – the meaning of message is the same – that learning the ‘truth’ is empowering. Whatever your truth may be. This book reminded me of a child like quality to learning, to explore, to be unafraid of conscious incompetence – indeed to embrace it – and forge forward with curiosity and wonder and hope. The book has given me a sense of “try” – what’s the worst thing that could happen? I’m off on my next adventure – enrolled on a course I had thought about for over a year – Thank YOU Claire – this book arrived at just the right moment and in just the right spirit. Share it with friends – they will thank you for it. Sheileen

How long did it take you to write The Power of True Learning?

The Power of True Learning has been a piece I have thought about for a long time, probably the last couple of years. Once I made the decision to transfer my thoughts on paper, it took me three months to put the kindle together.

What was the most challenging part of your creative process?

The most challenging part was to trust that I can create an impact on an audience of readers. Overcoming the self-doubt while writing and the worry of what readers will receive has definitely been the main challenge. I am very grateful to have been mentored by a fabulous book wright, and author Tom Evans in the process. I have managed to turn the challenges into very powerful learnings. I learned to delve into my imagination at a much deeper level to stop the nagging voice of self doubt and can’t wait to start writing the next piece. It has been a powerful transformational journey to arrive at a published book within just 3 months of making the decision to write.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My whole career has been driven by curiosity. I started out as a scientist, gained a PhD in life sciences in 1998 and worked in postdoctoral research at Northwestern Medical School in Chicago for a few years. I have always been fascinated by the mechanics of ‘how things work’ and how can we make our experiences of life better and more powerful as a result. My curiosity developed from the world of the cell and of physiology to that of the mind and the human brain. As a result my career shifted to learning, delivering and creating brain based personal development trainings. I integrated in my personal and business life the innovative power of being curious and learning to see pass pre-established dogmas and paradigms. I use this approach on a daily basis now with all my coaching clients and love watching the transformations and results they create. It was only natural to end up writing some of these insights.

Have you got a blog where readers can keep up with your work?

Yes, it is here.

Where can we buy your book?

On Amazon.

What’s next?

The next step is to write a second kindle, which is a natural development from ‘The POWER of TRUE LEARNING’. It is entitled ‘AWAKENED LEADERS’. Most of the contents/ideas are ready and I will start writing from Nov 1st (ED: this interview was recorded on October 31st, 2012). The final end result will be a printed book that merges part 1, 2 with some practical techniques to bring all the learning to life and support leaders transform their leadership and impact. The aim is for that to be ready by Spring 2013.
