Interview with Paula Hrbacek, author of On Higher Ground
Melanie Worlds has run out of luck; no job, no friends, no future. Desperately wanting to replace the middle-class life she once knew up on “the Hill”, her faith is being tested to the limits. JT, her newest friend, is up to something, but Melanie isn’t sure what it is. And then Brad, her high school crush, comes back to town. She can’t let him know how bad it is, or he’ll lose all respect for her. And, to make matters worse, someone is trying to break into her apartment. None of her prayers are getting answered, and she feels all alone. But she’s not. Two guardian angels have been assigned to help these three humans. The angels know God’s plan, and it’s going to take everything they’ve got to pull it off. To battle temptation, the angels will need to instill courage; courage to dare, courage to dream, and most of all, courage to love one another. What genre is it? But there does seem to be a religious thread through it. Who will it appeal to? Let’s go back to Melanie. Tell us about the two men in her life. JT was raised in a poor neighborhood, by a single mother. He had a big brother who taught him to play baseball, kept him out of trouble, and that was the best time of his life. He misses being on a team, so the lure of joining a gang is a real temptation. What lesson would you like readers to take from this novel? How true. Mona is a movie star, and Tim is a football star. It seems like a fairytale romance, but then his career is cut short by a car accident, and they have to deal with the changes that makes, both to their careers and their relationship. Tell us a bit about yourself. Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work? How can we follow you on Twitter and/or Facebook? What’s next? I like both fiction and arts and crafts, so you can expect more books in those categories. |
