Interview with Grant Reed, author of Garrett’s Mulligan
Garrett’s Mulligan is a novel that falls in line with my Vellian Heroes books “Funny Fruit” and “The Cassadian Chalice“. Garrett’s Mulligan takes place twenty years after the exploits of the first two books, and continues to follow Garrett and his miniature dragon friend, Merle. Garrett’s Mulligan is a “do over” for the pair as they start their life anew in the city of Deep Cove. Garrett has applied for his P.I. badge and papers, but in the meantime, the bills need to be paid and the pair must undertake menial jobs to make ends meet. Things get worrisome when some of their dock worker pals turn up missing, and Garrett’s employer, Mr. Kline becomes a target of the syndicate assassins. Since this is part of a series, please tell us about the other books. What genre are these books? My novels appeal to anyone who wants to settle down for a couple of hours and escape into a world of adventure and hijinks. Pirates, ogres, mystery, intrigue, Golem wars, camaraderie and adventure await. Tell us more about Garrett, Azilda and Merle. Garrett and Merle are partners and roommates in on the outskirts of Deep Cove. They live in a slanted little hut they rent off a notorious gangster, and making ends meet means utilizing their sleuthing skills on often dangerous cases –either that or they’re chasing cats or bagging manure. They also own a metal automaton by the name of P.C.. He’s supposed to clean the toilets and cook supper, but he spends most of the day gallivanting about and bad mouthing people. Good help is hard to find though, so Garrett and Merle are willing to take what they can get from their potty scrubbing robot. I wrote Garrett’s Mulligan at a time in my life when I too was searching for answers. “Why am I here?” “Why can’t I get a decent Job?” “Why am I not doing what I love to do? (Writing)”…and so, Garrett and I share a lot of common ground. I too used my mulligan by taking a risk and plunging ahead with my writing career (It hasn’t paid off financially, but I feel like I’m on the right track…) Hey, you’re on Indie Author Land, that’s definitely a good thing! Can you tell us more about yourself?
