My book is about a young woman called Gemma who has been thrown out of her mother’s house and onto the streets. She is forced into prostitution and controlled by her pimp along with four other girls. She desperately tries to escape the life she’s been faced with, but they are all scared and need outside help.

Gemma meets a punter’s son, Luke, one night who wants to help them, but the girls don’t trust that he can do anything, and only Gemma and her friend Jodie think they could have a chance of escaping with Luke. Her struggle to escape her past and live a normal life, finding her relatives in the process, is difficult, but when Gemma unexpectedly falls in love with Luke, she feels like everything is coming together. But it isn’t all smooth sailing on her new path when she realises she may always be judged and haunted by what has happened in her life.

What genre is it?
My book is a Young Adult Thriller.

Tell us about Gemma.
Gemma Davis is from Bradford, England. She is eighteen years old and lives with her alcoholic mother until she is thrown out. As the book progresses she develops strength and courage, but at first she is a little lost and scared and feels sorry for herself, but she is strong minded and always knows what she wants.

What about Luke?
Luke is a nineteen-year-old university student who wants to help Gemma escape the life she’s leading. His mother was once too a prostitute and Luke has a tendency to want to help everyone after feeling like he failed to help his mother.

What do we need to know about the pimp?
There are five girls working as prostitutes for the pimp. He looks at them as property and forces the girls to have numbers tattooed on the back of their necks depending on the order of when they came to work for him. Gemma is the most recent girl, therefore she has a number 5 tattooed on her. It is meant to show how she is thought of as a number and property rather than a person.

Have you written any other books that we should read next?
I have also written a short story called Renee that is also available, with other short stories in the works and almost ready to be published. Renee is about a young man called Alex who has lost his father to cancer. He meets a girl called Renee when he moves to a new town who makes him feel alive again after losing the person that meant the most to him. But when she goes missing suddenly, Alex suspects something more sinister may be going on in a seemingly quiet town.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am 23 and from Doncaster, England. I started off writing gig reviews and articles for local magazines, then progressed into writing fiction, which I am passionate about. I have started to self-publish my work to get more established and hope to find an agent or publisher in the future for my next novels. I also aim to write stories for radio too.

Have you got an online presence?
I have Facebook and Twitter and a page on a website that promotes self published authors:

What’s next?
I am currently working on a couple of other short stories that are almost ready to be published, as well as another Young Adult novel, so keep an eye out!
