Reap is a young adult dystopian book that explores the differences in the age-old dilemma of Rich v. Poor, the Haves v. the Have-nots.

Tell us more.
From five enormous, technologically-advanced cities, the Greaters rule over the Lessers. In the Lesser village of Orchard, things are not as perfect as Abby Kelley thinks they are. When the apple harvest draws near and the Greaters’ engineered fruits become too much for one village to handle alone, reinforcements from neighboring villages are called upon.

Having to choose between her best friend, whom she has no romantic feelings for, and mysterious newcomer Crew, Abby finds herself in the middle of a harvest that she had no intention of becoming a part of.
She becomes involved in a situation that threatens the strict rule of the Greaters, and just might give the Lessers hope for a better tomorrow. But, can she help the Lessers without losing Crew? And if she chooses Crew, will she lose her best friend?

Is this a romance novel or a dystopian one?
Young adult, dystopian, romance, sci-fi –A bit of it all!

What demographic is it aimed at?
Ages 15 and up can read the book. There is nothing explicit. If you can read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, you can read Reap.

Tell us about Abby. She’s a Lesser, right?
Abby Kelley is a stubborn, hard-working Lesser. She was raised with a sharp mind and sometimes her sharp mouth gets her into trouble.

What about the two guys in her life?
Kyan Marks is her best friend. He’s her team leader in their orchard and tries to look out for Abby. His feelings for her aren’t exactly in the friend-zone anymore, though.

Crew Cole is a new guy, sent to Orchard Village to help with the apple harvest. He has more than a few skeletons in his closet, but Abby is attracted to him despite that fact.

We always wonder how much of their own personality writers put in their characters.
A lot, actually. I am very stubborn and often stick my foot in my mouth. But, she’s brave and fun, too. There is a little bit of every writer in each character they make.

Very stubborn. Foot often in mouth. What else should we know about you?

I’m working on Resist, Book 2 in The Harvest Saga and am working on a short story for an anthology which will release later this year. I’m excited to be working with such talented authors on the anthology and that all proceeds from that work will be donated to charity.

We’ll look out for it. Anything else?
I also have a new YA Fantasy releasing in May (2014)! Look for Pariah, which features a unique take on fallen angels.
