Tell us about Hopeless

Hopeless is a story that revolves around the life of 17-year-old Sky Davis.  There’s a little bit of mystery, drama and romance, but it’s full of plot twists so I can’t say a whole lot about it.

Ooh, that’s intriguing. What genre is it?
Contemporary romance.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
It fits well in the New Adult category we’re hearing a lot about.  While it centers on the lives of teenagers, it appeals mostly to adults as to the themes in the book.  I’ve received great reviews from teenagers to seventy-year-olds.  So really it appeals to all ages.

Complete this sentence for us: If you like ___________, you’ll love Hopeless
Shocking plot twists.

We should be asking about Sky but we’re intrigued by Dean Holder. Tell us a bit more about him. No spoilers, though.
Dean Holder is a mystery.  Sky can’t figure him out and neither can the reader.  He’s intense, he’s quiet (at first) and doesn’t give much explanation for his contradictory attitude.  But once the reader finds out more about his secret, all of his actions are understood.

2012 was a busy year for you with your other books Slammed and Point of Retreat, and now Hopeless , did you get any sleep?
Not a lot, but luckily I don’t need a lot.  Having three small children has prepared me for the long nights.

Three small kids? Tell us a bit more about yourself.
I am 33.  I’ve been married to my husband since I was twenty and we have three boys.  We live in the same small town I was born in and we love it here.  I have a degree in Social Work and worked for the state in different capacities until this past June when I quit my job and started writing full-time.  It’s easily a dream come true.

You’ve sold the movie rights for Slammed and Point of Retreat. That’s even beyond the dreams of most self-published authors. What can you tell us about it?
The movie industry moves at a slow pace, so not a lot has happened since signing the movie rights.  It’s a first step in many, many steps that need to take place before actually seeing the books on the big screen, so all I can do is stay positive that someday it will happen.

It seems as if you came out of nowhere to become very successful in the space of a few months – movie rights, contract with a traditional publisher etc. How did you manage it?
A whole lot of luck.  I really have no idea.  People ask me for advice all the time, but I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it.  I certainly didn’t expect for any of this to happen so I’m taking it a day at a time.  I’ve never paid for promotion of any kind so I’m not sure what makes some books stick and some not.  What I do know is that I write because I love it and I try to keep that my main focus.

Have you got a website or blog where readers can keep up with your work? How can we follow you on Facebook and/or Twitter?
All platforms are my name, Colleen Hoover.

Colleenhoover.com is my website.  My facebook is www.facebook.com/authorcolleenhoover.  Twitter is @colleenhoover.

Where can we buy Hopeless?
Hopeless is currently available on all ebook platforms and is available in paperback on Amazon ( US, UK).

What’s next?
Rest.  Lots of rest.  I’ve got several signings coming up, but I’m trying to take a break from writing.  We’ll see how that goes.  Usually when I get an idea, I have to get it out immediately.
