Why you must read Java Davis’ Commune
COMMUNE is the story of an apple commune in the fictional M’Coun County, Michigan. An idealistic business MBA buys the apple farm with lottery winnings, and invites people to live there for free if they’ll work the land. If the place ever turns a profit, there will be shares for everyone. In a commune, like anywhere else, if you give something away for free, there will be people with their hands out, some who are honest enough to do a day’s work, and others who are happy to live off the labors of others, ones who are “not into work, man.” Inevitably, personalities will conflict and opposites will collide. Commune is about the people who converge on the commune and what happens to all of them in the long run. So is this a comedy? A drama? Anyone with a dry sense of humor, or who is cynical about life, will enjoy Commune. But it also has pathos and some happy endings. “Ensemble fiction”. We like that. Introduce us to the cast, if you will. Maia, Momo’s right hand, is in hiding from her own demons. She works like a mule and refuses to discuss her past. Linda, a potter, decides to visit Momo and the commune as a vacation. She gets roped into the politics and the drama of life on the commune. Dan is the supplies delivery man. With so many women coming and going at the farm, he is a serial dater, needing to work fast before they leave. Ritchie is an organic vegetable farmer. Dulcie is an embittered chef. And yes, there are MORE! Have you written any other books that we should read next? Tell us about yourself. Do you have a website where we can keep up with your work?
